Issues of the Hearts

While we are in-between series this week and next, I want to highlight some other teachers and teachings from 1 Samuel.

The first three this week each regard the issue of "the heart" in 1 Samuel:

  1. "I was scared" Nazim emphasizes, speaking of a man who presumed to sit in an office where he had not been placed. I think Samuel was trying to invoke power that he had not been given when he performed the sacrifice; he did not comprehend that things had to be done after the form that had been given. We are under Grace, not law, now, but the principle is the same -- not an argument for legalism; but rather for the picture behind the law. The "form" is about those things you put yourselves forward as seeking - mercy, justice, real back-to-back fellowship, etc.
